Who are we?

I’m Fabian, adventurer and founder of Travel Gems Uncovered.
I never imagined I’d be a passionate traveler blogger, I used to consider myself very career driven, a couch potato and gamer.
All that changed when I met my wife from Chile. Her culture, language, and traditions have enriched my life in ways I never anticipated.
When I first went to visit her country and family, it was a truly transformative experience, introducing me to a warmth and heartfelt kindness that I hadn’t experienced elsewhere. I often think, that I might never have discovered this beautiful country and its incredible people if it weren’t for her. And the same goes for my love for traveling.
Why “Travel Gems Uncovered”?
My goal with this blog is simple: I want to inspire others to see the world’s hidden beauties without the pressure to spend a fortune. I truly believe that the best travel moments happen when we step away from tourist crowds and explore like locals. Travel, after all, doesn’t need to be about ticking off famous monuments, it’s about diving deeper into a culture, discovering its everyday life, and creating meaningful connections.

Through Travel Gems Uncovered, I share my experiences, as well as insights from the amazing people I’ve met around the world. For Example friends from Berlin’s international community and locals from each new place I explore. If you’re seeking a guide to the Statue of Liberty, you may not find it here (though iconic places have their charm too!). Instead, I’m here to share honest, first-hand advice for those craving something beyond the obvious, places where true adventure and authenticity await.
Destinations
Currently, my wife and I are preparing for new adventures in Australia and Asia, an exciting change after eight years of making Berlin our home base. While I’m especially familiar with Germany and Europe, I also draw on the collective knowledge of our international friends and family, giving readers insights into far away places I might not have visited yet. I believe this unique network gives “Travel Gems Uncovered” an edge, allowing us to feature diverse perspectives on what each destination truly has to offer.
Travel on a Budget
The best travel memories aren’t reserved for those with deep pockets. Some of my greatest experiences, especially those in South America, came when I was a student on a budget, exploring with just a mini-job to fund my adventures. With a bit of creativity and local insight, I’m here to show that you can travel meaningfully without a high price tag.
